Grace Elizabeth Armishaw

Grace, the youngest child of George Victor Armishaw and Jean May Keith, was born in Portage la Prairie Jeb. 19, 1927.  She attended Hood School; a one room school named for her father's uncle Victor Hood who had the first school in his house.  When the school was constructed, the name Hood School District stayed with it.  After completing her education at the Portage Collegiate Institute, she was employed by the Manitoba Telephone Company in Portage.
She married Douglas McCallum Street on Dec. 22, 1948 in Portage la Prairie.  Douglas attended a one room school at Beaconsfield near his home on the farm and high school in MacDonald, Manitoba.  After attending business courses in Portage la Prairie, he worked at farm implement dealerships in Portage.  Until his retirement in 1977, he farmed his property in the Rignold area, 15 miles west of Portage.  Grace remained in the home to raise their four children.

Douglas's passions included membership in the Oddfellows Lodge and Ham Radio Operators (he built his own key and radio).  He also enjoyed golfing, cards and woodworking.  Both Grace and Douglas were active members of the McKenzie United Church.  Grace assisted in CGIT and Sunday school and was 25 years with the Thrift shop;  Douglas was a Steward, Elder and treasurer.
Grace owns their farm and lives in Portage la Prairie.  She still has the piano her mother brought from Elora, Ontario at the time of her wedding in 1913.
