Robert Roy Hanna                Marie Gwendolyn Jones
b. Oct. 10, 1898

Robert was born in Port Arthur; his father died when he was a little boy.
He served in world War I, Regiment #841328; his residence was Westmount, Quebec and his mother's name was Margaret May Conning¹.  Apparently, she had remarried by this time.
He married Marie, daughter of William Thomas Jones and Blanche Atkinson, on June 21, 1920.  The wedding took place at St. Patrick's Church² in Montreal; Marie was a member of that parish.  Witnesses were the bride's father and Arthur W. Jones.  His mother was identified as Marguerite [sic] Bonin.  The priest was Michael T. O'Brien.³
In Nov., 1924 he and Marie were living at the New Ontario Hotel in Port Arthur.  He was working as an insurance agent and on Nov. 24th crossed the border on his way to Houghton, Michigan.*

   At the time the church was built in the 1840's it was the focal point for the working class Irish Catholics who lived in the slums below.  The Quebec government designated it as an historic monument in 1985 and on Mar. 17, 1989 Pope John Paul II raised it to a minor basilica.
